Vadapappu and Panakam

They are made on the festival of Sri Rama Navami(Which is celebrated on chaitramasa sukla paksha navami)and offered to lord Sri Rama on the occasion of his birthday and also wedding ceremony .The panakam which is made out of jaggery , cardamom n pepper is super summer cooler and has got nutritional as well as medicinal values.Jaggery with full of iron, potassium ,magnesium and phosphorous.Its an energy booster which gives instant energy.It also releases enzymes which aids in digestion .pepper corns relieve us from digestion problems and best suited for cold,cough.And cardamom is used for flavour.It also helps for better blood circulation and prevents bad breath.The vada pappu is also having so many health benefits.The festivals we celebrate and the naivedyams offering to God have great significance on our body and health to overcome seasonal changes.

Ingredients(For panakam):

Jaggery : 1 cup

Black pepper corns: 7/8 nos.

Cardamom: 5/6 nos.

Water: 4 cups

Method of preparation(panakam):

1. Break the jaggery into pieces and put it in a vessel.Pour 4 cups of wAter to 1 cup of jaggery.image

2.Now take a mortar pestle put 6-7 black pepper corns and 4-5 cardamoms in it.image (1)

3.Crush them into fine or coarse powder.image (2)

4.Put them in jaggery water.image (3)

5. Allow the jaggery to dissolve completely.

6.Now the panakam is ready.image (4)

Vadapappu:

Ingredients:

Yellow moong dal: 1 cup

Water for soaking: 3 cups

Grated coconut: 2 tbsp

Salt: as required

Green chillies: 1 no.

Lemon juice: 1 tsp.

Method of preparation:

1. Soak the yellow moong dal for 1 hour in a bowl.image (5)

2. Drain the water completely add grated fresh coconut,salt,lemon juice and finely chopped green chilly to it.image (6)

3.Mix thoroughly and the vada pappu is ready.image (7)

Now the vadapappu and panakam are ready and can be offered to God as naivedyam.image (8)

Tip:

Before serving the panakam it is filtered with strainer and can be consumed.
