This is a great accompaniment to idly/dosa. The chutney  is no onion no garlic recipe. The chutney is prepared with equal quantities of roasted gram and peanut along with green chillies, tamarind and required amount of salt. The ingredients are ground to a smooth paste and the tempering is done. Here I present tasty peanut and roasted gram chutney which is served as an accompaniment to any South Indian breakfast. Ingredients:

Roasted Peanuts: 3 tbsp

Roasted gram: 3 tbsp

Tamarind: Small lemon sized

Salt: As required

Green chillies: 3/4 nos.

Tempering:

Oil: 1 tbsp

Bengal gram: 1 tsp

Black gram: 1 tsp

Mustard: 1 tsp

Cumin: 1 tsp

Asafoetida: A pinch

Curry leaves: A sprig.

Method of preparation:

1. Take equal quantities of roasted peanuts and roasted gram. If roasted peanuts are not available, take three tbsp of peanuts and roast them in dry kadai till nice aroma comes. Allow them to cool down and remove the skin of them.

2. Take a mixer grinder, put roasted peanuts, roasted gram, salt, green chillies and tamarind. Before adding tamarind, soak the tamarind in enough water for 15 minutes.image

3. First Grind the ingredients to get a fine powder. image

4. Now add tamarind water and grind to a smooth paste. Add little water if required. Grind once again to get the desired consistency.image

5. Transfer the chutney onto a serving bowl.

6. Heat small kadai and pour oil for tempering. When the oil becomes hot, put Bengal gram, black gram, mustard and cumin seeds. When mustard splutter add a pinch of Asafoetida and curry leaves.image

image7. Switch off the flame and pour the tempering onto the chutney.image

8. Now the delicious peanut and roasted gram chutney is ready to serve with karam dosa.image

Tips:

1. I’ve prepared the chutney without adding coconut. This chutney can be prepared adding 2 tbsp of grated coconut. Garlic flakes and one inch ginger piece can also be added for additional flavour.

2. Green chillies can be replaced with red chillies too.
