Pappu Biyyam

Pappu Biyyam translates to lentils rice. This is a very healthy one pot meal. Pappu Biyyam is a saviour especially on a busy/lazy day.  Temperature is done and veggies are sautéed. Lentils and rice are cooked together for a tasty dish. This is served with any South Indian pickle along with plain curd. Here I present easy one pot meal Pappu Biyyam to relish anytime. Ingredients

Rice: 1 cup

Toor dal: Half Cup

Onion: 2 nos.

Carrot: 1 no.

Potatoes: 2 nos.

Green chilies: 1/2 nos.

Salt: As required 

Water: 4 cups

Coriander leaves: small bunch

Tempering:

Oil: 1 tbsp 

Ghee: 2 tsp 

Mustard seeds: 1 tsp 

Cumin seeds: 1 tsp 

Asafoetida: A pinch 

Red chillies: 1/2 nos.

Method of preparation:

🌾. Heat small pressure of 3 litres capacity and pour oil for tempering. Add cumin and mustard seeds. 

🌾. When mustard splutter, add curry leaves, broken red chillies and a pinch of asafoetida. 

🌾. Sauté well and add chopped onion pieces. Add a pinch of salt and sauté till onions turn into translucent.

🌾. Now add chopped carrot,green chillies, coriander leaves and potato pieces. Sauté them for two minutes. 

🌾. Now rinse once rice and toor dal with water. Add them too. Mix them thoroughly and add 4 cups of water. Also add required amount of salt. 

🌾. Keep the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Switch off the flame and allow the pressure to cool on its own.

🌾. Open the lid of the pressure cooker and mix with ladle. 

🌾. Now Pappu Biyyam is ready to serve. Transfer the Pappu Biyyam/lentils rice onto a serving plate and serve hot with any pickle, plain curd.
