Dal rasam is no garlic no onion recipe. This is typical vegetarians rasam.Thoroughly cooked and mashed toor dal spiced up with ground rasam powder and tangy tamarind.This rasam especially tastes awesome when made with freshly ground rasam powder.For rasam powder check my rasam powder recipe which was posted earlier.Here I present dal rasam recipe to relish on any occasion and also during fasting days.Njoy Cooking, Serving n Savoring! Ingredients: Toor dal: 1 tbsp Tomato: 2 nos Green chilli: 1 no. Tamarind: small lemon sized Rasam powder: 2 tsp Jaggery: 1 tsp Turmeric: A pinch Salt: as required Curry leaves: a sprig Coriander leaves: few Tempering: Mustard seeds: 1 tsp Cumin seeds: 1 tsp red chilli: 1 no. Ghee: 1 tbsp Hing: A pinch Grated coconut: 1 tbsp(Fresh/frozen) Method of preparation: 1. Pressure cook toor dal and finely chopped tomatoes, green chilli on low flame for 3 whistles.Or else pressure cook toor dal,tomatoes separately in two vessels along with rice. 3. Once the pressure cools down remove the lid and transfer the toor dal and chopped tomatoes into a vessel.Mash thoroughly. 4. Pour 4 cups of water into the vessel.Add tamarind pulp and required amount of salt. Also add 2 tsp of rasam powder , jaggery into it.Bring it to boil for 15 minutes. 5. Put small kadai pour 1 tbsp of ghee add mustard seeds , when mustard pops out add cumin seeds, a pinch of hing,grated fresh coconut, red chilli and fry for a moment.Pour this onto the dal rasam and switch off the stove. 6. Now the dal rasam is ready and can be served with hot rice or even idly too. |
