Onion  patoli

Patoli is an Andhra delicacy which is prepared mainly with veggies like cluster beans, beans, onion and drumstick. This is great accompaniment to hot steamed rice or served with sambar/rasam. Onion patoli is very handy when vegetables are are not available. Chana dal/Bengal gram is soaked for two hours and ground with salt and red chillies. Servings: 4-6

Ingredients:

Oniins: 3/4nos.

Chana dal: One cup

Red chillies: 4/5 nos.

Salt: As required 

Turmeric: Generous pinch 

Tempering:

Oil: 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds: 1 tsp

Cumin seeds: 1 tsp

Bengal gram: 1 tsp

Black gram: 1 tsp

Asafoetida: A pinch 

Curry leaves: A sprig

Method of preparation:

☘️. Soak one cup of chana dal and soak in enough water for two hours. 

☘️. After one hour Add red chillies also into it. Keep aside for one more hour. 

☘️. Now drain the excess water and collect in a vessel. This water can be used to prepare sambar/rasam. 

☘️. Transfer the chana dal, red chillies into a mixer grinder and add required amount of salt. Grind the mixture to a smooth paste. If required add little water.


☘️. Now heat kadai and add tempering ingredients. When mustard splutter add a pinch of hing. 

☘️. Meanwhile chop onions into big pieces and add them into the tempering. Add a pinch of salt, turmeric and sauté them till they turn into translucent. Also add curry leaves.

☘️. Now add ground paste and mix thoroughly.



☘️. Cook the mixture on low flame stirring occasionally till it attains the desired consistency(Like dry curry consistency/texture). 

☘️. Now the amazing onion patoli curry is ready to serve.
