Hyderabadi Aloo/Potato Dum Biriyani


Hyderabad Biriyani is popular worldwide because of its unique flavour and taste. The procedure is little elaborate but it’s worth to prepare and relish its distinct flavors. Biriyani is Prepared with mix veggies or just potatoes. Here I present mouthwatering delicious Hyderabadi aloo dum Biriyani to serve  during lunch/dinner with raita. Ingredients:

Basmati rice: 2 cups 

Almonds: 1 tbsp

Coconut pieces: 1 tbsp 

Salt: As required 

Curd: 3/4 th cup

Coriander leaves: Small bunch 

Mint leaves: Small bunch

Garam masala: 1 tsp 

Red chilli powder: 1 tsp 

Cumin powder: 1tsp

Ginger garlic paste: 2 tsp

Biriyani masala powder: 1 tsp 

Potatoes: 2/3 nos.

Onion: 1 no.

Oil + Ghee: 2 tbsp 

Saffron strands: Few

Method of preparation:

🍛. Take two cups of basmati rice, rinse well with water and add two cups of water for soaking. Also soak few saffron strands in little water.

🍛. Take two large potatoes, peel the skin and dice them into big pieces. Immerse them in water till we use.

🍛. Meanwhile prepare paste for marinating potatoes. Take mixer grinder , add soaked and peeled almonds, coconut pieces, green chilies, coriander leaves and mint leaves. Grind them into a smooth paste adding required amount of water. 

🍛. Take curd into a bowl. Transfer the ground paste into the bowl., add cumin powder, red chilli powder, Biriyani masala,ginger garlic paste and required amount of salt. Mix thoroughly. Add diced potato pieces and marinate in the ground mixture for 15 minutes.

🍛. Heat pan, pour oil and add few finely chopped onions. Fry them on high flame till they turn into golden brown colour. Transfer them onto a plate and use them as a garnish. 

🍛. In the same oil add remaining chopped onion pieces and sauté them till they turn into translucent. 

🍛. Now add marinated mixture and sauté till raw smell goes away. Meanwhile cook basmati rice till 90 percent done. Drain excess water and keep aside. 

🍛. I’ve prepared biriyani in electric rice cooker. Arrange sautéed aloo mixture and cooked rice in alternate layers. Also pour saffron water. 

🍛. Cook the Biriyani in electric rice cooker till it’s done.

🍛. Serve hot Hyderabadi aloo dum Biriyani with onion raita. Delicious 😋!
